As heard on Rock 104.5 on Wednesday night.
The Mountain View Colts staved elimination on Wednesday night, in Game #3 of their 2nd round Heritage Junior Hockey League playoff series with the Rocky Rams at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
The Colts entered Wednesday’s game down in a 2-0 hole thanks to losses on Saturday night by a score of 5-1 and Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-1.
The Rams had won 7 straight games heading into Game #3, including a 5 game-winning streak to close the regular season.
With their backs up against the wall, the Colts would look to their veterans for a big offensive output.
The Colts would catch an early break as Steven Bell (2) poked away a neutral zone turnover while shorthanded to spring himself a breakaway, where the veteran forward would make no mistake to give the Colts a 1-0 lead.
The Rams would even things up not long after that, Quinn Tomalty (2) would make it a 1-1 game midway through the 1st.
Jake Smith (3) would continue his hot play against the Colts, putting Rocky up 2-1.
Before the period was out, Bell (3) would capitalize on another Rams turnover to even the game back up at 2-2.
The 2nd period saw plenty of action on both ends of the ice.
Tristan Hoffus (3) would give the Rams their second lead of the game at 3-2 early in the frame with another powerplay goal for Rocky.
The Rams powerplay entered Wednesday’s action having gone (4/9) through the first 2 games of this series.
The Colts, however, would not be denied.
Aiden Saunders (1) would get his first of the postseason at the 8:14 mark of the period before Simon Leischner (1) potted home another one just 7 seconds later.
Leischner’s first of the playoffs would stand to be the game-winner.
Kai Biggin (1) would add another late 2nd-period goal, while Steven Bell (4) capped off his hat trick performance by nailing a 150-foot shot into the empty net.
Brock Lott would go on to stop 38/41 to earn his first postseason victory.
Zaiden Hansen kicked out 24/28 in the loss, after earning a .970 save percentage through the opening 2 games of the series.
Post-game, Steven Bell was all smiles as he got to extend his Junior career with tonight’s win.

Colts bench boss Dan Visser was pleased with the win but says his team will need to stay out of the box in Game #4.
