The Grizzlys beat Devon 5 to nothing in the opening game of the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Showcase week at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary. The game started at 11am.
Fischer is a 19 year old goaltender from North Vancouver, B.C. and he was making his debut with the Black & Gold after coming here from the Nanaimo Clippers. Fischer drove all day on Tuesday to get to Olds and hadn’t even practiced yet with his new team before posting a shutout in his first game. He says “I think for me that’s something that makes me stand out. I’m mentally strong. I, you know, like situations like this where I’m at a bit of a disadvantage. So I felt really good. Just going into the preparation too, there wasn’t much to it. For me I think it was easier because I just went straight on. Like I just wasn’t even thinking about it. Just playing the game out there.”
Olds now has 2 wins and 3 losses this season, Devon is also 2 and 3.
All 12 member club’s will play twice in Calgary this week in front of scouts from colleges, universities, and pro hockey organizations.
The Grizzlys second game at the AJHL Showcase will be on Thursday, September 26th at 1:45pm versus the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
