Homestand starts with visit from defending AJHL champions

The Olds Grizzlys will try to extend their winning streak up to three games when they entertain the defending Alberta Junior Hockey League champions tonight.
Olds is 3-3-0-0 on the season after winning back to back games over Devon and Bonnyville last week at the AJHL Showcase in Calgary. Meanwhile the Calgary Canucks have won 4 straight to improve their record to 4-1-1-1.
18-year-old forward Antonio Bevacqua has scored a goal in 3 of the 4 games he has played for Olds so far this year. The product of Langley, B.C. has a total of 6 points with his new club. He says “basically, I played for the Surrey Eagles last year in the BCHL. Obviously, with changes and stuff I ended up here and I’m having a great time so far and I’m getting the opportunity that I think I needed and deserved. So far I’m very happy and we’ll see if we can keep going. I think I just feel pretty confident now and I’m getting used to, obviously, the league and the boys. I think I’m fitting in well and I’m having a great time out there.”
Bevacqua scored a power play goal in both games as the Grizzlys went a total of 5 for 9 on the man advantage versus the Xtreme and the Pontiacs. He says “it has been great. We’ve basically had one or two practices with the new power play and we pretty much clicked. As of now we’ve been doing great. Obviously, we’ve got to keep it consistent and we’ve had a great start so I’m happy for the boys.”
The Grizzlys made a trade this week to acquire a 20-year-old defenceman. Tristan Taylor – who is listed as a right hand shot d-man who is 6’3″ and just over 200 pounds – arrives from the SJHL’s Kindersley Klippers in exchange for future considerations.
Olds hosts the Calgary Canucks this evening (October 4th) at 7 o’clock and thanks to the Grizzlys Alumni all children ages 12 and under get in for free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
If you can’t make it to the rink, 96.5 CKFM will have live coverage of all the action.
This homestand will also include visits from the Camrose Kodiaks on October 5th, the Bonnyville Pontiacs on October 11th, the Drayton Valley Thunder on October 12th, and the Whitecourt Wolverines on October 18th.
96.5 CKFM spoke with Antonio Bevacqua after practice on Wednesday, October 2nd.
