The Mountain View Regional Film Office was recognized this week at the Economic Development Alberta Xperience 2024 Conference in Kananaskis.
It won an award for ‘Innovative Approach to Economic Development’ in the small communities category.
Mountain View County Reeve Angela Aalbers they are pretty excited about the traction the Regional Film Office is getting out in the public.
Sundre Mayor Richard Warnock says it has been a really successful partnership between Mountain View County, the Town of Didsbury, and the Town of Sundre. He adds, you are really proud when these types of things happen.
Didsbury Mayor Rhonda Hunter says “When Sundre talks about bringing in their filming, it is about $45,000 a film that they realize is spread around the community. We as Didsbury realized about $600,000 from the ‘Under the Banner of Heaven’ being here so often and so present in the community for all the filming they did here. The economic development side of exposure to communities I think is the most valuable and when we talk money, of course that is what is valuable to our businesses but I think what is most important is that we are on that global stage and being recognized as a place where our film industry wants to come and visit and make their movies.”
