Senior girls basketball provincials coming to OKCS, sponsorship opportunities available

The Olds Koinonia Christian School Royals will be hosting the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association (ASAA) 1A Senior Girls Provincial Basketball Championship tournament during the 2024-2025 season.
The championship tourney will include the top 12 teams in the province.
Diane Sewell, Senior Girls Basketball Coach at OKCS, says during her 11 years at their school they have won provincial gold in 2019 and a provincial silver last season. She notes they have also earned a provincial bronze and a fifth place finish during her tenure.
Sewell would love to make the provincial championships in Olds a great event with great swag bags for all the players that will be coming to town. She says “about 200 players, basketball players will come and their coaches, and then they’ll bring families as well. So hundreds of people will visit our town and our community. Yeah, the more sponsors we have would be great. I would like to have a skills competition and have some great door prizes. I’m mean like I would like to be able to offer some shoes, like wouldn’t that be cool if you could go buy a new pair of basketball shoes with the sponsorship that we had. I just think that would be so fun. I’m also looking to have a social event where all the teams can come and we’ll have a great speaker and some door prizes. So we need sponsors for all of that stuff.”
According to Sewell, the Royals will have about 8 or 9 players returning to their senior girls basketball team for this season. Sewell says “so we should still be a pretty strong team and we have some great tenth graders coming in that I’m looking forward to working with. So I think it will be strong. I’m looking forward to the season and I don’t know for sure how we’ll finish overall but I expect to finish in the top half of that group of 12 teams. So hopefully that will work out.”
She adds, the first regular season games for their senior girls basketball team are coming up in December.
Anyone interested in volunteering or sponsoring the ASAA 1A Senior Girls Basketball Provincial Championship tournament can contact Olds Koinonia Christian School at 403-556-4038.
