As heard on 96.5 CKFM, the Olds Grizzlys lost the special teams battle and it cost them the two points against the Whitecourt Wolverines.
Whitecourt came to Olds and went 3 for 6 on the power play, en route to a 4-1 road victory on Friday, October 18th.
The Grizzlys streak of six straight games with a PPG was snapped and so was their string of three wins in a row. The Black & Gold were 0 for 4 with the man advantage against the Wolverines.
Defenseman Tristan Taylor (2004) from Anmore, B.C. cut Whitecourt’s lead to 2-1 by scoring his second goal of the season in period two. However, that was as close as Olds would get.
The Wolverines doubled down when given the opportunity for a two man advantage in the third period scoring on the 5 on 3 and then 39 seconds later cashing in on the 5 on 4 to seal the victory.
Whitecourt is now 7-3-0-1, while the Grizzlys are 6-5-0-0.
It was a $5 Friday for the Grizzlys with $5 admission for adults and seniors, plus $5 drink and merchandise specials. Every stoppage in play also resulted in one lucky fan winning a $5 bill courtesy of the Olds Grizzlys.
After going 3 and 2 on their five game homestand, the OGs travels to Drumheller on Sunday afternoon. The Wolverines take on the Dragons at the Drumheller Memorial Arena on Saturday night.
