Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills MLA celebrating the contributions of local businesses during Small Business Week

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is calling on the provincial government to tackle the rising costs and ongoing affordability challenges that continue to strain Alberta’s small business when the provincial Legislature reconvenes next week.
In a media release, CFIB urges “the Alberta government to take meaningful action in reducing the cost of doing business and improving overall affordability.” Small business owners are encouraged to sign CFIB’s petition.
Nathan Cooper, the MLA for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills, points out that the government of Alberta continues to look at ways that it can make a more competitive business environment. He says “whether that is reducing red tape, whether that is assessing taxation policy, or whether it is creating an environment where investment from other jurisdictions is attractive here in the province. It is a priority of the government of Alberta to ensure that we have one of the best environments for businesses to thrive, grow, and employ Albertans.”
Small Business Week stretches from October 20th to the 26th and it includes a couple of local award ceremonies today (October 24th).
The Olds & District Chamber of Commerce will hold its Awards Gala at the Olds Royal Canadian Legion, and the Three Hills & District Chamber of Commerce will also recognize its business award nominees and winners.
MLA Cooper notes that it is great to be able to be at as many of those events as possible across the constituency and to celebrate all of the great things that happen because of our small and medium sized businesses. He says “this is always such a great week. You know small and medium businesses here in the great constituency of Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills and right across the province really do make our communities what they are. They are the beating heart of our communities and in so many ways they assist our community whether it is employing our friends and neighbours, donating to minor soccer or hockey, dance or our schools. They really do provide such vibrance in our community and so it is a great week to be able to celebrate them.”
