Aidan Saunders scored the overtime winner at the 2:03 mark of Saturday’s extra frame, as the Mountain View Colts defeated the High River Flyers by a score of 3-2 in front of a jam packed Didsbury Memorial Complex.
The win extends the Colts winning streak to 3 games, and have now won 4 of their last 6 games played.
The Colts win came in comeback fashion on Saturday night.
Haiden Parks (4) sniped home a long distance shot to put the Colts up 1-0 early in the second.
The Flyers would answer back with a couple goals in quick succession however, with 2 inside 100 seconds by Owen Grant and Wout Rehorst to put High River ahead 2-1 at the second intermission.
The Colts would go to work in the 3rd period launching 16 shots on goal during the 3rd, and it was a hard working shift by Jay Heisted that would eventually payoff for Mountain View.
The Colts veteran of over 100 HJHL games scored his 3rd of the season to tie the game at 2, and eventually pave the way for over time.
Aiden Saunders overtime winner was the second of his HJHL career.
Nicholas Smith continued his stellar play this weekend.
The netminder allowed his first 2 goals against as a member of the Colts, stopping 26/28 to earn the win.
Smith now has a record of 3-0 with Mountain View, after back to back shut out victories last week in Three Hills (1-0) and on Friday night at home versus Rocky (3-0).
His counter part, Kashton Payne, was solid for High River in the loss versus Mountain View, stopping 44/47 in the loss.
Mountain View now improves to 5-7, and jumps them up 2 spots in the Northern Division standings to 4th with 10 points.
96.5 CKFM caught up with Head Coach of the Mountain View Colts, Ron Doig, prior to tonight’s game.
The Colts will now hit the road for a Southern Division road trip next weekend with stops in Coaldale and Medicine Hat.
The next Colts broadcast on 96.5 CKFM will come on November 16th, when Mountain View welcomes Sylvan Lake to the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
