A two-day pumpkinfest has helped generate a substantial donation to the Mountain View Food Bank.
Debora Rice-Salomons – Owner, The Heritage Centre – points out that 30 volunteers from the community, including Mountain View County’s Reeve Angela Aalbers, helped them paint 125 pumpkins last week.
She adds, those pumpkins were then sold during the Fall Artisan/Craft Market on October 26th and 27th. Rice-Salomons says “we sold 101 of those pumpkins and we raised over $2,220 dollars and we had a few left over so we sent them up to a seniors’ home in Olds, who are just enjoying them as table centre pieces, but it was a really fun time. The community all came together, lots of volunteers, lots of photo opportunities. We had kids dressed up in costumes and everybody, of course, picking out their beautiful painted pumpkin in support of the food bank.”
She notes the painted pumpkin fundraiser was a great success, the community loved it, and they look forward to doing it again in 2025. Rice-Salomons says “that makes my heart happy. We’ve been told by the food bank that the need has increased about 200 per cent over the last couple of years and to be able to help the families in our community this way, just was really a great thing at this fall season.”
