Rotarians From Olds Win Curling Championship In Ontario

A couple members of the Rotary Club of Olds – District 5360 – had a very successful trip to Peterborough, Ontario for the 2024 Rotary World Curlng Championship.
Lead Andy Sweetman, and second Gary Gaudette were part of a team that outlasted nine others to win the trophy for first place on the championship side of the tournament. Their third was Darren Grierson from Calgary-West and their Skip was Collin Georget from Airdrie.
Gaudette says the Rotary World Curling Championship takes place every two years. They were in Ontario for it from April 4th through the 13th.
Gaudette says it was just a great event overall, and everybody was so friendly.
He says they went 7-2 during the round robin portion of the tournament before defeating Scotland in the semifinals, and then they took down Grande Prairie 7-5 in the championship final.
Gaudette hopes their rink will be able to qualify next year for the 2026 Rotary World Curling Championship which will take place in Scotland.
