MV County to put forward one resolution at RMA’s Fall Conference

Staff and elected leaders of Alberta’s 69 rural municipalities are inĀ Edmonton this week for RMA’s 2024 Fall Convention and Tradeshow.
Mountain View County is extremely pleased to be bringing forward a resolution to the Rural Municipalities of Alberta event that it feels is a very important issue for the County’s taxpayers and residents.
Reeve Angela Aalbers says it is with respect to water licensing and how water licensing – in particular temporary diversion licences – are being currently handled by the Alberta Energy Regulator.
According to Reeve Aalbers, Mountain View County’s RMA resolution is also requesting that the AER no longer be the authority responsible for handing out temporary diversion licences and that Alberta Environment and Protected Areas retain the full authority for issuing all licences with respect to water. She says “so Mountain View County was able to take this to our district meeting earlier in October and we did have full support from our district. So we’re pretty excited to bring this forward to the entire membership now, knowing we have the support of our district.”
Reeve AalbersĀ says Mountain View County is really excited about bringingĀ it forward and she thinks it is going to be a resolution that is going to positively impact their residents as well as the residents of Alberta.
Meanwhile,Ā the Rural Municipalities of Alberta’s Fall Convention and Tradeshow includes an appearance by Premier Danielle Smith today.
Reeve Aalbers adds, Mountain View County is very fortunate that all of its council will be attending this week’s convention and they also have administration joining them. She says “our council always really looks forward to the bear pit sessions and so, of course, we never know what kind of questions our member municipalities are going to ask to the Ministers but it is probably one of the sessions we get the most value out of. It allows us to understand the issues across all of rural Alberta and also gives us an opportunity to hear the Ministers’ feedback on those issues. So it is always a highlight of the session for us.”
RMA’s Fall ConventionĀ continues until Thursday.
