Lest we forget.
The nation will take time on Monday to acknowledge the sacrifices made by past and present members of the Canadian armed forces.
Joy Cavin, Master of Ceremonies for the Remembrance Day Community Service in Olds, has been involved with Remembrance Day services since joining the Air Cadets program when she was 12. Cavin says “I actually am a vet. I was an officer with the Cadet program for 16 years and only retired about 5 years a go. I don’t think I’ve ever missed a Remembrance Day service since I was 12. I really appreciate everything the Legion does to make sure that the Remembrance Day services happen every year.”
Cavin points out that they are very excited to have the Evergreen Singers back with them this year and there will also be a greeting from Mayor Judy Dahl.
She adds, we are also in a position to acknowledge the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force this year. She encourages everyone to come out on Monday. Cavin says “Remembrance Day service is a very important ceremony that happens to remember all of the veterans who gave their lives for us and for our freedom and it is so important for everyone to be a part of this and to remember and to acknowledge everything that our veterans have done for us.”
The Remembrance Day Community Service in Olds starts at 10:30am on November 11th at the CLC Centre. Doors open at 9:30, and the parade assembles at 10:15.
