A cattle hauler rollover occurred shortly after noon on Thursday, November 7th in Innisfail.
RCMP responded after a single vehicle semi rollover happened on the Highway 590 overpass.
According to police, the driver was heading west bound and failed to navigate the south turn onto the QEII Highway.
As a result of the rollover, the semi wound up on its side and approximately 75 calves were trapped inside the trailer.
The driver suffered what are believed to be minor injuries and was taken to hospital in Innisfail.
Meanwhile, a collaboration between Innisfail Fire/ Rescue, Red Deer County fire/Rescue and Red Deer County Livestock Response Unit along with the local Innisfail Auction Mart worked to free the cattle and safely move them into additional trailers for transport.
Innisfail RCMP note that local veterinarians were brought in to assist with the welfare of the animals and about a dozen of the calves were found to be deceased.
Mounties say they are “continuing to investigate the circumstances of this collision.”
