The Alberta Government says that housing starts are on the rise across the province, with 37,971 so far in 2024 marking a 34 percent increase over the same period last year.
Monthly data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation shows that Alberta continues to show strong success in increasing its housing supply.Â
In an effort to hep get more shovels in the ground, the province has launched the Stop Housing Delays online portal.
The tool is now available and will help government identify and address barriers to building homes across the province so that Alberta can continue building homes as quickly as possible.
In a news release, Jason Nixon, Alberta’s Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services, says “Alberta is seeing remarkable numbers of new housing starts as our province continues to grow. These homes are an investment in Alberta’s future, and we will continue to work with our partners to make sure we continue to increase Alberta’s supply and strengthen our communities for years to come.”
Housing starts increased the most in Lethbridge, up over 209 percent in 2024, while Red Deer has seen the second largest increase at 93 percent.
