The deployment of body-worn cameras to frontline members is underway for Alberta RCMP.
The provincial rollout will continue for the next 12 months.
Drayton Valley (226.9 kilometers of driving distance) north of Red Deer and Nanton (179.6 km) south of Calgary are about the closest to the Town of Olds out of the 13 communities so far that have RCMP detachments outfitting frontline members with body cams.
13 more RCMP detachments will receive BWC’s in January including Sylvan Lake.
According to a media release, the video evidence collected through these devices will provide independent, unbiased, and objective interactions between civilians and officers, helping to increase trust between police and the communities they serve.
