Mountain View Colts Defeat the Sylvan Lake Wranglers, Winning Streak Extended to 4 Games

The Mountain View Colts extended their winning streak to 4 games in thrilling fashion on Saturday night at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.

Cole Irwin picked up his first Heritage Junior Hockey League goal, while Rhett Miller had a goal and set up 1 of 2 tallies on the night for Hunter Sellers, eventually leading the Colts to a massive 4-3 win over the league leading Sylvan Lake Wranglers.

The Wranglers were defeated for just the 3rd time this season, Mountain View has now been on the other end of 2 of those losses.

With a 4-3 win on Saturday, the Colts wrapped up a 6 game home stand that saw them pick up points in 5 of those contests.

Mountain View picked up a 4-0 win over Red Deer on Friday night.

Nicholas Smith was once again the man of the weekend for the Colts, the 20 year old netminder stopped all 24 shots the Vipers threw his way for his 4th shutout of the season. Smith then turned aside 22 of 25 to earn his 9th win of the year against Sylvan Lake.

The weekend was a productive one for the Colts in the standings, who at (11-10-1) now find themselves in a 3 way tie with the Airdrie Thunder and Red Deer for 2nd place in the Northern Division with 23 points.

The Colts had plenty to be happy about post game on Saturday night, co-captain Haiden Parks picked up 2 assists and was happy with his team’s efforts.

Hunter Sellers scored 2 goals including the eventual game winning goal, he was happy to help his team win.

Cohen Richardson logged a powerplay goal on Friday night, that goal would serve to be the game winner against the Vipers. Richardson was the feature interview of the 2nd intermission show, he joined CKFM prior to this weekend’s action.

Head Coach of the Mountain View Colts, Ron Doig, joined CKFM prior to Saturday night’s game. The Colts bench boss reflects on the first half of the season, his expectations moving forward and how the team has rallied in recent weeks.

The Mountain View Colts will now hit the road for the remainder of 2024, the blue and red will return to action on Friday the 13th when they travel to Ponoka to battle the Stampeders.

The next Colts home game will come on January 4th when they welcome the Medicine Hat Cubs.
