The Innisfail Eagles season came to an end on Wednesday, April 24th in Dundas, Ontario.
The Birds lost 2-0 to the Southern Shore Breakers from Newfoundland on the final day of preliminary round play at the 2024 Allan Cup Challenge Tournament.
The loss dropped Innisfail’s record to 0-3-0 at this year’s national senior men’s AAA hockey championship tourney and as a result they did not qualify for the playoff round.
Meanwhile, the host team – the Dundas Real McCoys – improved to 3-0-0 at the tourney by outlasting the Stoney Creek Tigers 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday night.
By finishing in first place during round robin play, the Real McCoys advance to Saturday afternoon’s Allan Cup Challenge championship game.
Following an off-day today, Stoney Creek (1-1-1) will face off with the Southern Shore Breakers (2-1-0) in Friday night’s semifinal.
The Real McCoys are the defending national senior men’s AAA hockey champions. They won the title when the tourney was also played in Dundas last year.
The Innisfail Eagles have gone to Ontario for the Allan Cup Challenge Tournament in each of the past two seasons. They were crowned Alberta senior men’s AAA champs in both 2023 and 2024 thanks to back to back victories in the provincial final over the Stony Plain Eagles.
