For over four decades a very special dinner has been served up in the Town of Olds on December 25th.
Linda Anderson is one of the organizers of the annual Henry Sonnenberg memorial Christmas dinner at the Olds Legion. She says “Henry started it in his little bakery that he had Uptowne. He had a cafe and a bakery and he started it years ago for people who were less fortunate and/or alone. His health started to go downhill so he contacted the Lions Club and the Lions Club contacted the Legion and now we are all working together.”
The free dinner is available for dine in or take out from 11:30am until 3pm on Christmas Day. She says the community itself donates all of the food while volunteers help to cook and serve it.
Anderson adds, they could still use a few more volunteers on Christmas Day. She says “we could still use some help from 1:30-4:30 and then we have another shift from 4-5:30. So we could still use people to come and help.”
If you are interested in volunteering to help with Henry’s Christmas Dinner call Linda at 403-556-3896.
Home delivery of the dinner is available for shut-ins. Contact Alan at 403-507-5204.
