The Mountain View Mavericks will begin their 2024 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Junior B Tier 1 regular season on Saturday, when they travel to St. Albert to take on the Crude Lacrosse Club.

The Mavericks missed the playoffs last season but are looking to keep building on a program that has seen gradual improvement through their first 3 years in the RMLL.

Mountain View was (3-15-3) in 2022 and improved to win 8 games in 2023.

Assistant Coach, Wally Genz, returns for his second season with the Mavs, he says his core group of players have been putting the work in over the off season.

“We’ve been looking forward to this day since early fall, a lot of our guys have been going to clinics and going to our own camps, so everybody is anticipating the start of the season.”

The Mavericks have 2 games scheduled as part of the opening weekend of the RMLL season, the team is in St Albert before returning Sunday for their home opener against the Rockyview Silvertips.

Genz expects a heavy matchup against the Crude Lacrosse Club.

“St Albert Crude are known to have very big bodies. They have a couple players over 6 feet taller and pushing 220-230lbs so they like to play big boy lacrosse. Our team is well prepared for that, as we have our own big guys on the team and guys that play big.”

The Mountain View Mavericks home games will be played at the Innisfail Twin Arena, the Mav’s home opener will go on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
