Sundre’s Mayor is looking back at the year that was for their beautiful Town in the west country.
Richard Warnock says council made a decision to combat the aging infrastructure they have in the town, in addition to having to do the underground to prepare for the 2025 overlay project of the highway through Sundre by Alberta Transportation.
He says a lot of our efforts were spent from a workload stand point in completing that Main Avenue and 2nd Street north infrastructure. He says “I don’t have the final numbers but for around $3.9 million to replace those pipes. We did have extensive water leaks when we got in there and seeing that we were, you know, close to having a major issue and we are very happy that we caught it before it got to that.”
He highlights the fact that the Town of Sundre is in good stead when it comes to the projects that aren’t infrastructure – such as sewage line flushing, and other items to keep their streets and alleys in good shape. Mayor Warnock says “so from a roads report point of view, very well. From a business point of view, I think it was a very steady year. I think our residents and businesses are pleased with how the year has went. We have started a festivals and events to try and enhance that going forward and I think that will also be successful after we get a year or two under our belt to make sure we can get that out with our residents. I’d like to say we did a lot of other projects, but we were so focused on infrastructure that pretty well our efforts went on that in 2024.”
Mayor Warnock adds, they are also very happy to say the four season testing has been completed for the Town of Sundre’s pilot project for its new lagoon – and they are looking forward to a positive response from Alberta Environment when they get through what they need to do so the Town can proceed with that project.
