Warning issued by RCMP after vehicles break through ice on Sylvan Lake

Mounties warned the public about unsafe ice conditions on Sylvan Lake over the weekend.

Sylvan Lake RCMP issued the warning to residents and visitors just after 11am on Saturday (December 28th).

According to RCMP, two vehicles broke through the ice and were submerged in the water on Saturday but no injuries were reported in these incidents. However, they do highlight the urgent need for caution.

Police say ice thickness can vary significantly across Sylvan Lake and – as of this weekend – the current conditions are unsafe for vehicles or other heavy equipment.
