BGC Olds and Area is always growing.
Lauren MacMullen, Youth and Community Outreach Director with BGC Olds and Area, says they have seven spaces around Olds. She adds, they are starting up in Didsbury and Bowden as well.
MacMullen notes their daycare programs added rooms in 2024. She says they added more space and got new staff because they continue to grow. She says “part of that is we’re also giving back to the community because we’re able to get more children into youth care and we’re also able to offer more employment opportunities for people in the community as well. Our youth program has also really grown in The Zone – that started up this year and really grew. We have lots of kids coming through that program and it just started a great safe space for the youth in our community to be able to come hang out, have fun, also get resources and have supports like homework help, or anything else that they might need that they are looking for as well.”
She points out that they are so happy to be in as many communities as they can because that means they are able to give more support, more resources and impact more families, children, youth and serve them. MacMullen says “part of why it would be such a good reason for families to have their children come here is because our mission is to provide a safe supportive place where children and youth can experience opportunities, overcome barriers, and build positive relationships. So we really hope that people feel safe here and can come learn new skills and develop confidence while they are here as well.”
According to MacMullen, BGC Olds and Area will have its second annual New Year Party on Friday, January 3rd from 4 until 8pm at The Zone – located at 4911 51st Avenue – for any youth in grades 6 and up. It is a glow party.
