A product of the Olds Minor Hockey Association has been called up to the National Hockey League.
Ronan Seeley has been recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes and will serve as a “black ace” for the duration of their playoff run.
The 21-year-old defenseman was selected in the 7th round, 208th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, he put up 2 goals and 12 helpers in 58 American hockey League games this season.
Carolina currently has a 3-0 lead in their series with the New York Islanders, the Canes can advance to round #2 with a win Saturday afternoon.
Seeley played the majority of his younger years for OMHA, before moving on to the Red Deer AAA program ahead of his WHL draft year.
A “black ace” is a player who will join the NHL team for the duration of that club’s playoff run, they usually serve as an extra body for practices or pre game skates and are used when injury or suspension opens a hole in the lineup.
