Curlers slide from Didsbury to Olds for 2025 Farm & Ranch Bonspiel

The Chairman of the Didsbury Farm & Ranch Bonspiel Committee is thanking the Olds Curling Club’s Board of Directors and their members for allowing the annual January tradition to happen this week.
Rick Phillips is grateful to have a venue in Olds for the 2025 edition of the Didsbury Farm & Ranch Bonspiel. He says “it all started when we got a text at 3 o’clock on a Thursday that the curling club in Didsbury had shut down for the year. So we started reaching out to see if we could have it in Olds and it probably came together in about two days.”
According to the Town of Didsbury, the ice was removed for both arena surfaces and the curling rink at the Didsbury Memorial Complex at the end of December 2024 following the discovery of an ammonia leak in the condenser.
Phillips adds, they are thrilled to have their regular caterer for the event – the Prairie Whistle Food Co. from Didsbury – involved as well even though it is in Olds this year.  He says “we want to thank Sam at RC Eats for sure. We decided that if we could have it here, we would like to bring our own caterer because they had already some stuff bought for meals and that. We talked to Sam. He was gracious enough to give up his kitchen for a few hours. First day went great, so hopefully we can continue that for the rest of the week.”
Phillips says they are full again this year with 32 teams in the bonspiel and bunch of returning businesses are involved as well as some new ones.
The semi-finals and finals of the Didsbury Farm & Ranch Bonspiel are coming up on Friday at the Olds Curling Club.
The banquet will be on Saturday.
