The 77th edition of the Innisfail Farmers and Farmerettes finished up on Friday, January 24th with the event finals.
The winners on the Farmers side included the Innisfail Golf Club skipped by Doug Schaefer as they defeated NAPA Innisfail and Dan McAurthur in the A-final. Schaefer’s rink included third Marshall Wood, second Greg Hoar, and lead Nathan Saar from the Innisfail Golf Club. He says “we played well and they didn’t have their A-game. So we just had to keep our composure and made it happen. Game to game was really good. We all played really well actually for every game. Had a couple battles early but got through them all. It was a good week. This bonspiel has really good for a lot of years. I’ve been part of it for a long time. They really put on a good event this week and it was really exciting.”
Other winners on the Farmers side for 2025 at the Innisfail Curling Club are Heartland Insurance and skip Travis Phillips in the B-event, the Olds Golf Club and skip John Buyks in the C-event, plus Heartland Funeral Services and Wilson Lougheed in the D-event.
On the Farmerettes side this year’s A-event winners are Co-operators/McGillivray Insurance and skip Kim Lewis. Lewis got past Zenally Chartered Professional Accountants and Dorothy Dixon in the A-final. She says “well I’m actually still in shock. I thought we’re not going to pull it out of the bag out of that one. Finally we got some weight and they starting missing a few shots because they didn’t miss many. Oh yes, it’s a great week. We come out and come and curl and it’s lots of business camaraderie and get together with the farmers and then we have luncheons. It’s just a great social get together. It’s really nice that it continues on year after year because it is really a fun week.” Lewis’ rink included third Jana Dimopoulos, second Chris Donner, and lead Jessica Jorgensen.
The Farmerettes B-event winners are Antler Hill Veterinary Services and Dawn Howes.
28 teams participated on the Farmers side and 8 on the Farmerettes side which matched last year’s totals.
