The first place team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League arrives in Olds tonight to face off with the Grizzlys.
The Canmore Eagles are three points ahead of any other team thanks to a record of 26-9-4-1. Olds is sixth in the South Division with a record of 14-24-1-0. The Grizzlys are 15 points back of the Division’s fourth and final playoff spot.
The Grizzlys and Eagles are slated to play six times this season but so far they have only met twice. Canmore won 7-2 in the mountains on December 7th, but the Grizzlys would strike back by earning a 3-2 win in a shootout at home on December 10th.
Canmore has won five consecutive games including a 5-2 home win last Saturday versus the Devon Xtreme. The Eagles swept a three game homestand at the Canmore Recreation Centre as they also posted victories against Drumheller and Whitecourt.
Olds is coming back from a weekend road trip to Fort McMurray. The Grizzlys were unable to earn any points on the trek as the Oil Barons triumphed by scores of 8-2 on Saturday and 6-4 on Sunday.
The Black and Gold have 15 games remaining in the AJHL’s regular season and only five of them will be on home ice. Four of them will be in the next seven games. Olds will then only have one home game after February 15th with eight of the final nine taking place on the road.
96-5 The Ranch will have live coverage from the SportsComplex starting this evening at 6:55 as Olds clashes with Canmore.
