The Reeve of Mountain View County will be taking another run at re-election this October’s municipal election.
Angela Aalbers has let it be known that she will once again be vying for the Division Five seat at the council table
Her first term on Mountain View County council started in 2014 and in 2021 she became its first female Reeve. Aalbers says “it has truly been an honour and to be the first female Reeve has just been absolutely fantastic. We have a great council. I’ve been very fortunate to serve three terms with extraordinary people and extraordinary councils. I have been very fortunate to serve with extraordinary administration and support, and my municipal colleagues across all of Alberta. It really is a fantastic experience and I feel very, very lucky.”
Aalbers is seeking a fourth term on County council. She says “well every year I say that this may be the last year, and then you run into the last year of your term and realize there is just so much stuff that is left to continue to do. We are working really well with Sundre Hospital Futures Committee and the Town of Sundre on a new Sundre Health Campus. There’s lots of great capital projects ongoing. We’re looking at renegotiating and reviewing our intermunicipal collaboration agreements with the Towns and the Village, depending what the province comes back with regulations on those agreements.”
Division 5 covers Bearberry, James River, McDougal Flats; Parts of Bergen and Eagle Hill/ Westward Ho.
If anyone is interested in running as a municipal elected official or just information on what it means to be a municipal elected official, Aalbers explains where you can find out more details. She says “I think it is just an awesome opportunity to support and represent your communities. If anyone would like additional information they can contact the County office and talk to our administration and I’m sure they will be able to provide them with a wealth of information on what the job entails.”
Every year, Mountain View County councillors elect the Reeve during their annual organizational meeting. Aalbers has been elected as the Reeve at the organizational meeting each year since 2021.
