Decrease In Rural Crime Reported By Southern Alberta District RCMP

Mounties are reporting that rural crime has decreased in the majority of the Southern Alberta District (SAD) RCMP jurisdiction.

The northern boarder for the Southern Alberta District RCMP jurisdiction runs from west to east across Lake Louise, Sundre, Olds, Three Hills, Drumheller, Hanna, and Oyen. It includes all of the communities – other than Calgary – from there down as far south as the Montana border.

The data was generated by comparing January to March of this year to the same period in 2023. According to a press release, it shows there have been 76 fewer persons crime offences, 213 fewer property crimes offences, and 373 fewer total criminal code offences.

Additional information provided by SAD RCMP reveals break and enters decreased by 18.4 percent, theft of motor vehicles decreased by 21.9 percent, and theft under $5,000 dollars decreased by 17.7 percent.

District Advisory NCO for SAD, Staff Sergeant Laura Akitt states “These statistics show the great work of our members are doing in our detachments to combat rural crime. We will continue to listen to the needs of the people we serve, working proactively towards the apprehension of those who commit crimes in our communities.”

Those individuals who see a crime being committed are encouraged to please contact your local RCMP detachment, or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
