Canada, Mexico granted another tariff reprieve for goods under USMCA by Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again pushed pause on imposing his 25 per cent tariffs on goods from both Canada and Mexico.

The latest exemption for goods that are compliant with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement will expire on April 2nd. The USMCA is the pact negotiated during Trump’s previous term as President to govern trade in North America.

Back on February 3rd, Trump put his tariffs against both of the North American neighbours to the United States on hold for 30 days.

The initial reprieve from the tariffs for Canada followed a conversation Trump had with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The two reportedly spoke again this week and Trudeau confirmed that it was a “colourful call” and also a “substantive call.”

The Trump imposed tariffs initially took effect at the start of the day on Tuesday (March 4th).
