Community Lending Shelf starting spring fundraising

The Community Lending Shelf is hoping spring is almost here.

Lucinda Watkins, Director with the Lending Shelf, points out that their coats for everyone program is winding down. According to Watkins, this is the last week that they’ll be open for coats and they will be packing them away to make room for more spring seasonal items.

She notes that their new location in the old Fire Hall in Olds on 50th Street has been fantastic so far. Watkins says “we used to be down in the basement of the United Church which was a great location that we grew out of when we adopted the Dress for Success program as well as the Coats for Everyone program. So now we’re able to set up a retail space where people can come in and shop – for free – and get, you know, adult clothing as well as the outerwear.”

According to Watkins, they are kicking off a fundraiser. She says “we’re talking to businesses and local individuals that are interested in sponsoring a month or, whatever, some of our utilities. A lot of those costs can’t be covered by grants and that sort of thing. So we’re kind of talking to different businesses and putting it out into the universe that we are fundraising for some of the utility costs that come along with being in a building.”

The Community Lending Shelf is open at its new location at 4829 50th Street from noon until 2pm on Wednesdays and from 3 ’til 6 on Fridays. They also have a 24/7 drop off bin there for anyone who would like to donate clothing.

For more details on their fundraising efforts, volunteering with them, or any other questions Watkins says to contact them on the Community Lending Shelf – Olds Facebook page.
