The U18 AA Grizzlys have captured the Central Division playoff tournament title.
They were the top seed for the tourney in Lacombe based on winning the Central Division during the regular season.
Olds began the tournament with a 5-2 win over the Red Deer Elks on Thursday. The U18 AA Grizzlys then tied the host team – the Central Alberta Selects – 1-1, before topping the Bow Valley Timberwolves 9-2 on Friday.
In the semifinals on Saturday, Olds got a 35 save performance in net from Colin MacDougall in a 6-0 triumph over the Central Alberta Selects.
In Sunday’s tournament championship game, U18 AA Grizzlys Captain Greydon Willsie had the skate away play as he scored in overtime to propel his team past the West Central Tigers 3-2.
The U18 AA Grizzlys now advance to the Alberta Elite Hockey League’s South Conference Championship series against the Foothills Bisons. It will be a three game series slated to be played from this Friday through Sunday. Details are being finalized by the league and more will be passed along when available.
