The path to get to one of the largest beef processing plants in Canada will soon be smoother and quicker.
About 3,200 people are employed by the JBS Foods Canada Inc facility in Brooks and the road they use to get there is in line for some upgrades thanks to this week’s (Tuesday, April 1st) funding announcement from the provincial government.
Improvements in the County of Newell to the tune of $1.8 million will go towards a new road connection between Highway 873 and the JBS Food plant. Premier Danielle Smith says the commute will be shorter and safer and cut “up to an hour and a half off the time it takes workers at the plant to get to and from work.”
Alberta’s Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors says this announcement of the JBS Foods expansion “has sustained this region’s position as a growing agrifood economic powerhouse.” Devin Dreeshen adds, “sustaining this growth requires robust transportation infrastructure.”
According to Alberta’s government, the design for the project has been done, construction is anticipated to get underway this spring, and be completed by fall of 2025.
A $90 million expansion of the storage and distribution facilities at the JBS Foods plant had previously been reported in June of last year.
