**(Update – This tornado warning from Environment Canada was deemed no longer in effect before 5pm on Thursday, May 16th)**
Alberta Emergency Alerts (AEA) were issued on Thursday, May 16th in the 3 o’clock hour as Environment Canada meterologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado.
According to the AEA, Doppler radar indicated – as of 3:54pm – a potential tornado near Youngstown and Special Area No. 3. It is moving to the east at 50 kilometres per hour.
The initial AEA had mentioned Special Area No. 2 and Spondin. Spondin is located east of Hanna and about half way between Drumheller and Stettler.
Also possible with the thunderstorm are damaging winds, large hail, and locally intense rainfall.
