There is a chance for community members to help out as the annual clean up takes place this Sunday for the Hainstock Cemetery.
Board Member Gary Yewell says they have about three acres now and he believes their oldest grave site dates back about 150 years, so it is quite a historical location. He says “Well, I tell you it has got some history because at one time was the cemetery for the Town of Olds but at that point, over a hundred years ago I believe, the roads were so bad that they decided to put a cemetery closer to town which is where the existing Olds cemetery is now. So the Hainstock area basically took it over as their responsibility and it’s been that way ever since and it’s a completely volunteer organization.”
Yewell says they will be cleaning up around the grave sites and any general debris that has accumulated through the winter time they will clean that up as well.
If you can help out, come and join them at the Hainstock Cemetery on Sunday, June 9th at 10am. Bring a whipper snipper, a shovel, and a rake if you can. It is located three miles west of the Town of Olds on Highway 27. For more information contact Gary at 403-703-0572.
