Fire Advisory For Rocky Mountain Forest Area

As Albertans soak up the sun and enjoy this recent heat wave, the province continues to monitor the ever evolving wildfire risk.

The wildfire danger risk across the Rocky Mountain Forest Area is very high, forecasted sunny and hot temperatures only heighten the risk of wildfire.

A fire advisory is now in effect for the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area.

Under the advisory, existing fire permits are valid but extension requests may not be granted, new fire permits will be issued on a case by case basis, while safe wood burning campfires and backyard fire pits are still permittable.

The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

There are currently no active wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area.

Since January 1st, there have been 39 wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, which have burned 6.28 hectares.

Provincially, there have been 632 wildfires recorded in the Forest Protection Area.

Of these wildfires, 13 are classified as out of control, 20 are being held, 27 are under control and 570 have been extinguished.
