Alberta Housing Starts Up 54% So Far In 2024

Alberta set a new record in June with the most housing starts in the first six months of a year, according to new data from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

A news release from the Government of Alberta outlines that in the first six months of 2024, housing starts in Alberta have increased by 54 percent as more than 21,500 new homes have started construction across the province.

While Canada had only a seven percent increase in housing starts in the same time period, Alberta’s housing boom is going strong and is on pace to set records as one of the busiest years ever.

Alberta’s two major centres continue to lead the way as Edmonton increased its number of housing starts by 67 per cent and Calgary by 38 per cent since the same time last year.
