Alberta Gov’t Urging Safety For Working In The Heat

The Government of Alberta is emphasizing the health and safety of workers exposed to the extreme heat.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires employers to assess hazards and take all reasonable steps to protect the health and safety of workers.

Employers and workers should be aware of the early signs of heat stress, including irritability, headache, dizziness, heavy sweating, dehydration, muscles cramps and heat rash.

Persistent symptoms can progress to heat stroke, a life-threatening condition requiring immediate medical attention.

Employers are reminded to provide plenty of drinking water, reduce physically demanding work in hot conditions and to adapt schedules to work in cooler hours.
