Wildfire near Water Valley has not expanded in the last 48 hours, reception centre at community hall closes

Mountain View County has updated the public on the status of the wildfire in the Municipal District (MD) of Bighorn.
As of Friday afternoon (July 26th), the fire remained classified as out of control by Alberta Wildfire.
However, the County noted that “significant suppression efforts by the MD of Bighorn and other agencies have prevented its growth over the past 48 hours. At this time, the fire poses no risk to Mountain View County residents.”
The Water Valley Community Hall reception centre closed its doors at 4pm on Friday. It had been providing support and information to evacuees but due to limited new information from Alberta Wildfire and reduced activity at the reception centre over a two day period, the County – in consultation with the MD of Bighorn – decided to close it.
To stay updated on any further developments, residents are encouraged to check Mountain View County’s website, its mobile app, and its social media channels regularly.
Ongoing concerns or assistance related to the wildfire is available by email at emergency@mvcounty.com or by calling 403-335-3311.
Sincere appreciation was also extended by Mountain View County “to the Municipal District of Bighorn, Alberta Forestry, and all of the dedicated fire fighters who have worked tirelessly to manage and suppress the wildfire. Their unwavering commitment, expertise, and bravery has been instrumental in ensuring this wildfire has not increased or impacted Mountain View County.”
