Mountain View Colts Training Camp Goes This Weekend

The Mountain View Colts are back on the ice and preparing for their 35th season in the Heritage Junior Hockey League.

The local Junior B team has their annual training camp this weekend at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.

Skates are scheduled for tonight and all day Saturday, before camp concludes on Sunday with an intersquad game at 2pm.

Ron Doig is entering his first season as Head Coach of the Mountain View Colts. He says there’s about 40 players signed up for this weekend.

“Looks like the last list I saw had 41 on it. There was 11 goalies and 30 skaters. So, down from last year, about 10. Got some guys coming in next week after camp, guys that are maybe away at other hockey camps and some guys that are actually coming in for school in Olds and Calgary that just couldn’t make it in for the weekend, but they’re coming in next week to get set up for school.”

Doig adds that most of the Colts’ veterans are back as well.

“I think just about everybody. Quite honestly, I think last I saw we had 18 returning players so, pretty much everybody but the ’02s.”

Doig says the plan is to have a competitive camp, then take some time to look things over and assess the roster.

The Colts have some time to work with. Their first pre season game is scheduled for September 6th when Mountain View welcomes the High River Flyers to the DMC.
