Debbie Thompson appointed Interim President during leadership transition at Olds College

A leadership transition was announced this week by Olds College of Agriculture & Technology.

According to a media release, OC’s Board of Governors is reporting that Debbie Thompson, the current Vice President of Academic, has been appointed as the Interim President of Olds College.

The Board notes that “Thompson has been an integral part of Olds College for over 10 years, bringing extensive experience in educational leadership and a deep commitment to student success and innovation.”

Background provided in the release, states that Thompson joined Olds college in 2014 as the Dean of Animal Sciences & Horticulture and has since served in several key leadership roles. On her resume is also a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary.

Gratitude is being expressed by the Board to Dr. Ben Cecil, as this leadership transition occurs, for his 20 months of dedicated service to Olds College and best wishes for his future endeavours are being passed along to him. No further details were provided in the release which was sent out on August 27th.

Dr. Cecil assumed the role as Olds College’s President on January 16th of 2023. He became the 14th President of Olds College succeeding Stuart Cullum who had served in that capacity from 2017 to 2022.
