The Olds Grizzlys are off to a winning start in the AJHL preseason.
The first of six exhibition tune ups for Olds ahead the 2024-2025 regular season was a wild one.
The Grizzlys jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Devon Xtreme. Olds would then fall behind 4-3 before the end of the second period, but a third period comeback resulted in a 7-4 triumph at the SportsComplex on Wednesday night (August 28th).
Forward Jonathan Doucette (2006) from Boston, Massachusetts had two goals and and assist. Goaltender Thomas Popa (2004) from Calgary stopped all 18 shots he faced while playing the first half of the game (29:35).
It was the first of six preseason games Olds will play, and it was the inaugural game for the Xtreme as part of their first year in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
It also gave Brad Tobin a win in his first exhibition game in the AJHL as the new Head Coach for the Grizzlys.
The Black & Gold will head to Devon for a rematch with the Xtreme on Friday as exhibition play continues.
