Blue and green brought in as part of new brand for Olds College Broncos

After more than a decade of a crimson, gold and black colour scheme, the Olds College Broncos are unveiling their new brand.

The changes are being made, in part, to align with the overall brand of Olds College of Agriculture & Technology. OC’s updated brand was launched in 2022 and this new logo for Broncos Athletics was developed by Olds College’s Marketing and Communications department.

According to a media release, the new logo “features a white horse’s head as an homage to the Indigenous cultures whose land Olds College occupies and as a connection to myth and legend where they are used as symbols of strength and courage. The wordmark uses the same typeface as the Olds College logo, but with a heavier weight and italicized style to create the impression of movement and sport. Some characters are sliced and angular to create a fierceness and sense of motion.”

Trina Radcliffe, Senior Manager of Athletics and Wellness for the Olds College Broncos, absolutely loves it and while working on it she says not being able to show the athletes or the coaches was the hardest part. The new blue and green colour scheme look will be reflected in their new uniforms this season, according to Radcliffe. She says “it’s, honestly, everything. It’s the uniforms, it’s our gear, it’s our apparel. This year we have a wordmark, which we are really excited about. So we have the logo, the horse head that, you know, really represents the strength, the speed, and the endurance of the athletes but the wordmark gives us a really strong brand.”
The Olds College Broncos have approximately 160 athletes for this season and their men’s and women’s teams will participate in soccer, futsal, basketball, volleyball. She adds, they also compete in rodeo, as well as women’s hockey. Radcliffe says “I just really want to thank the community of Olds for their support. We really want to make Olds a college sports town and we want invite everyone to come out and watch. We have an incredible product whether it is on the court, on the soccer field, in the arena. All of these athletes give it everything they have every time they step out there.”
First up this season for the Olds College Broncos is the opening weekend of Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) soccer on September 8th when their men’s and women’s teams visit Red Deer Polytechnic.
Radcliffe says the home opener will be free for everyone to come and join the Broncos for a BBQ when they host RDP for more soccer action on Saturday, September 21st.
