Harvest Progressing Quickly Across Alberta, Yields Down In Central Region

The Government of Alberta says harvest progress has moved quickly since the last crop report released on August 20th.

Harvest for all crops advanced 17 percent according to the August 27th report, with crops provincially around 20 percent combined.

That figure is 8 percent ahead of the 5 year average and 10 percent ahead of the 10 year average.

Among all crops, harvest progress is furthest along for winter wheat, with 94 percent complete, followed by fall rye at 93 percent, dry peas at 73 percent, and lentils at 59 percent across the province.

In the Central Region, 25 percent of crops have been combined, which is ahead of the 5-year average by 15 percent.

Preliminary dryland yield estimates have slightly declined since last reported two weeks ago.

Currently, the major crops provincial yield index is estimated to be just 1 per cent below the 5-year average and 5 per cent below the 10-year average.

Within the province, the best yields are in the South Region at 19 percent above the 5-year
averages, while the Central Region has the lowest at 12 per cent below the 5-year averages.
