The Ecole Olds High School Spartans have stacked back to back wins together to start the brand new high school football season.
OHS got past the Titans 35-25 on Friday, September 6th in Drumheller in week 2 of the 2024 campaign.
Lyle Groves with the Spartans provided mymountainviewnow.com with this game update “in the 1st quarter at the 6:00 minute mark, Olds Qb Aiden Knobben hit receiver Ethan Pederson on a 6 yard pass for a major. With a missed PAT, the Spartans lead 6-0 and never looked back. In the second quarter at the 11:44 mark, Aiden Knobben again hit receiver Carson Christensen with a 27 yard pass and scored another major. With a missed 2 point convert, the Spartans increased their lead to 12-0. At the 5:54 mark, the Titans hit a 15 yard pass and run for a major and a missed PAT, to make the score 12-6. At the 2:29 mark, running back Raddick Hapner did a touch and go from the Titans two yard line for another Spartan major. With another Aiden Knobben pass to Ethan Perderson for a 2 point conversion to make the Spartan lead at the half mark 20-6. I’n the third quarter at the 4:04 mark, the Titans scored a major and missed the PAT to make the score 20-12. The Spartans came back at the 1:45 mark with another Raddick Hapner major in a 12 yard run and a missed PAT again made the score 26-12 for the Spartans. Not to be taken lightly, the Titans ran back the Spartan kickoff for a major at the 1:32 mark of the third quarter. A missed PAT for the Titans ended the third at 26-18 for the Spartans. At the 6:15 mark of the 4th quarter, the Spartans pinned the Titans deep and had them give up a two point safety to make the score 28-18. At the 3:30 mark, Aiden Knobben hit Gabe Drent with a 29 yard pass and a major for the Spartans. With a PAT conversion by kicker Cayden Craig, the Spartan lead was now at 35-18. With a last gasp, the Titans threw a 40 yard pass with 23 seconds remaining for a major and a successful PAT to make the final 35-25 for the Spartans.”
Groves believes it is the first time in 8 or 9 years that they have been able to beat Drumheller.
The Spartans are on the road next week to Lloydminister to Play the Holy Rosary Raiders on Friday, September 13th for another exhibition game.
Olds had begun the year with a 39-0 preseason win at home on August 30th over the North Trail High School Nighthawks from Calgary.
Next action at NKP for the Spartans will be on September 19th versus the High River Mustangs.
