Terry Fox Runs are coming up across Canada this Sunday.
In Water Valley, Mary Thomson says registration is at the Water Valley Wellness Center at 8:30 on September 15th.
Participants can walk, run, cycle, whatever you choose to do from 9am until 1pm. There are also different distances for the run. Pick either a 2 or 10 kilometer run.
Thomson notes it is a family tradition in Water Valley and she is very proud of it. She says “people show up that have come for years and years. It’s on their list every year and the support we get from the community is amazing. Since 1989, we’ve raised $226,800 and the school since 2004 has raised $57,326. So our community just gives and gives. It is such a wonderful community.”
Last year, Water Valley raised over $8,200 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Thomson hopes they can do $10,000 this time around.
She adds, their best year was 2019 when they collected $18,000 dollars.
Thomson says has posters up around town with a code you can scan if you want to donate.
In Olds, the Terry Fox Run of course is also open to everyone.
The community can come together to run, walk, or roll to continue the fight against cancer.
Registration on Sunday is set for 10am at the Olds Fire Hall on 65th Avenue.
