Water Valley/Cremona Terry Fox Run nearing $250,000 raised since 1989

The Water Valley/Cremona Terry Fox Run was able to exceed its goal for this year.
Volunteer Coordinator Mary Thomson says the weather was perfect. It was sunny and not to hot, not to cool.
She notes they had 42 participants and raised over $10,000. Thomson says “I’m just stoked over that. Thanks a lot to everyone who came and participated, and especially our tried and true, you know, the traditional ones that always come. We had a few new people as well. The Friends of Terry Fox always come and they have a run ahead of us and then they donate the money to the run and do the run as well. So that helps on our total. Yes, just many thanks to everyone.”
The participant total was similar to 2023, but the amount raised was up by about $1,800 dollars, according to Thomson. She says “thank you to everyone that always supports us so well. Cremona Lions, KC Foods, Carstairs Co-op for expenses and food, as well as her workers – the volunteers that help make the day a success.”
She also thanks Water Valley EMS for patrolling during the run to keep everyone safe.
Thompson points out that they are nearing a milestone for the overall total they have raised during the history of the event. She says “we’re close to $250,000. I think last year we were at $239,000. So we’re just getting right up there to break that $250,000 since 1989. So that’s something else to be very proud of for our small community. Cremona and Water Valley because I live in Cremona and there are several people from Cremona too. There are families that come back every year from Calgary and all over the place to be back home as they call it, and do the run with us.”
Overall this was the 44th year for the Terry Fox Run. Learn more about the efforts of the Terry Fox Foundation online at TerryFox.org.
