The Mountain View Colts have wrapped up their preseason schedule and now turn their full attention to regular season play getting underway this weekend across the Heritage Junior Hockey League.
The Colts went 1-2 in preseason play, picking up a win against the Cochrane Generals on Saturday but dropping games vs the High River Flyers and Airdrie Thunder.
Mountain View has a new look behind the bench this year, as Ron Doig steps into the head coaching roll after Dan Visser’s departure following 2 years at the helm of the blue and red.
The Colts will look to build on last season’s record of 17-15-6, which with 40 points, had them 2nd in the HJHL Northern Division.
The Colts would go on to lose in the first round of the playoffs to the Rocky Rams, 3 games to 1.
The Colts new coach says his sons Raegan and Ryan will join him as part of his coaching staff this season, along with Mike Hien and Bryce Quashnick.
Doig says the Colts will be a little shorthanded for the opening weekend, as the organization awaits arrivals from other camps around the province.
The Mountain View Colts will begin their 35th season of play with their home opener on Friday night against the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
Live coverage of that game can be heard on 96.5 CKFM.
The Colts will then travel to Rocky on Saturday, for a 2024 Frist Round rematch vs the Rams.
