Olds Koinonia Christian School added 52 new students this year.
For the first day of classes on September 3rd, that brought enrolment there for kindergarten to grade 12 up to a total of 351 students.
Principal Cherie Sanche says this year they have a new hybrid program available to students in grades 7 to 12 at Olds Koinonia Christian School. She says “it allows them to do some of their schooling from home and just come in on Tuesday afternoons and Thursdays. They get some time here in phys ed classes, getting some one-on-one help from teachers but there is a lot of flexibility then for them to do some of their schooling from home as well. Yeah, so that is kind of an exciting new opportunity we are just expanding into that realm of offering some at home learning combined with coming in and having some time with students in other in-person programming as well.”
She points out that they held their Terry Fox Run last Friday. Principal Sanche says “we meet in the gym before lunch, in the period before lunch. We sit with our buddy classes. So the grade 1s sit with the grade 12s, grade 2s with the grade 11s, and then we’ve created buddies all the way through. We do a little talk about Terry Fox and the difference that he made, an inspiring time together. We head out and we do the Terry Fox Run around the perimeter of our campus. Then they spend lunches in their buddy classes and the recess time over lunch they spend out on the playground doing activities together with their buddies.”
Principal Sanche says the Terry Fox Run is a very important reminder to just continue to support those kinds of causes. She adds, they talked about some of the difference that has been made with the dollars that have been raised over the years and the research that has happened from that.
According to Principal Sanche, Olds Koinonia Christian School currently has a waiting list. She says “for all of our elementary classes. So right now it is very apparent in this community our numbers are going up every year, we have waiting lists in our younger grades, that there is a strong interest in Christian education in this area. We are really glad that Chinook’s Edge supports that and supports us. So it is awesome to be part of the school division.”
She says one of their long-standing teachers at Olds Koinonia Christian School is moving into a leadership role this year as Laura Campbell is their new Vice-Principal.
Principal Sanche adds, they also have another staff member who joined them last October – Alex Dennis – who will take on a new role and now head up their Student Services Learning Department.
