Town of Didsbury receives resignation letter from councillor Joyce McCoy

Didsbury’s Chief Administrative Officer informed council during last night’s meeting (Monday, September 23rd) that he had received a letter of resignation from Joyce McCoy.

Ethan Gorner notes that councillor McCoy’s resignation is effective immediately.

According to a media release from the Town, the matter of whether or not to hold a by-election will be discussed by council at the regular meeting on October 8th.

In the meantime, council will continue with a Mayor and five councillors.

The Municipal Government Act states that if a councillor resigns within 18 months of a general election, holding a by-election is discretionary.

The next general election is coming up in October of 2025.

On behalf of council, Mayor Rhonda Hunter thanked councillor McCoy for her service to the community in the media release and added “we wish her all the best.”

Councillor McCoy had previously served on Town of Didsbury council from 2013 until 2017. She was elected again in 2021.
