The champions for 2024 were crowned on Saturday night at CFR 50 in Edmonton.
Oregon’s Dalton Massey is this year’s champ in steer wrestling. Landon Beardsworth from Red Deer County finished in 5th, Ryan Shuckburgh from Innisfail was 6th, Matt Richardson from Olds placed 8th, and Morgan Grant from Didsbury wound up 11th. Richardson earned nearly $14,000 at the Canadian Finals Rodeo to move up from 10th in the steer wrestling standings to 8th.
Other major event winners at CFR 50 included Zeke Thurston from Big Valley in saddle bronc, Kody Lamb from Sherwood Park in bareback, Haven Meged from Montana in tie down roping, William Barrows from Foremost in bull riding, Taylor Manning from Yellowhead County in barrel racing, and Macy Auclair from Ponoka in breakaway roping.
The team roping header champion is Kavis Drake from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and the team roping heeler champion is Jeremy Buhler from Arrowwood. Buhler’s partner is Trey Gallais from Sundre. Gallais wound up 5th among team roping headers.
Shane Smith from Wimborne was 6th in tie down roping, Kyle Lucas from Carstairs was 7th, Jason Smith from Wimborne was 8th, and Riley Warren from Sundre was 11th. Warren finished 3rd in the all around championship standings. Morgan Grant from Didsbury placed 4th in the all around and Braden Brost from Didsbury was 5th. Logan Spady from Alliance was crowned the all around champ at CFR 50.
Kyle Brown from Didsbury was 12th in bull riding.
Kolby Wanchuk from Sherwood Park is the 2024 Kenny McLean High Point winner.
CFR 50 was held from October 2nd through the 5th at Rogers Place. The Canadian Finals Rodeo was back in Edmonton for 2024. Edmonton had been the host city for the event from its start in 1974 until a venue shift after 44 years to Westerner Park in Red Deer in 2018.
